Where Was Crew Girl Filmed? Vancouver Island, Not New England

Eagle's Cove and Easton Prep are invented. The real places are on Vancouver Island: public parks, working businesses and a university campus.

Not New England. Crew Girl is set in Massachusetts, but it was shot around Victoria, on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, about as far across the continent as you can get without leaving it.

No spoilers on this page.

Where was Crew Girl filmed?

Victoria and the small towns around it, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Filming ran from 8 September to 21 November 2025, under the working title Easton Prep.

Showrunner Vivian Lin was taken with the drive in, telling Netflix: "Just driving into work each day was so beautiful."

Is Eagle's Cove a real place?

No. The town is invented, and Sidney plays it, a real seaside town north of Victoria. Its downtown streets and waterfront stand in for Eagle's Cove, with Port Sidney Marina doing the boats.

Hatley Castle as Easton Prep

Easton Prep is invented too, but the building is not. It is Hatley Castle, in Colwood just west of Victoria.

James Dunsmuir, then lieutenant governor of British Columbia, commissioned it from the architect Samuel Maclure. Building began in 1908 and took about eighteen months, and the family moved in on 1 May 1910. It was the largest private house on the west coast at the time, and Netflix describes it as a 40-room mansion. The estate is now the campus of Royal Roads University, and Lin called shooting there "a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

You have almost certainly seen it before. Hatley Castle has been Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in the X-Men films, Luthor Mansion in Smallville, Queen Mansion in Arrow, and Auradon Prep in the Descendants films. Royal Roads keeps a list, and it covers more than 30 productions. Old money reads the same whichever franchise is borrowing it.

Where Crew Girl's rowing scenes were filmed

On the water around Victoria: Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park, and the Gorge Waterway, a tidal inlet that runs through the middle of Greater Victoria.

The Victoria City Rowing Club, on Elk Lake, stands in for Easton's rowing facility, and the Selkirk Waterfront on the Gorge appears as well. Both are part of Victoria's working rowing scene, which is some of why the racing looks the way it does.

How Crew Girl filmed its races

The production built a barge big enough to hold the whole crew and their gear, then strapped a 67-foot shell to it. Lin's summary of the problem: your set is on water.

The barge moved at about six miles an hour, slower than a racing eight, so the cast had to perform the speed the camera could not deliver. Regatta scenes involved as many as five boats at once, and drones covered the shots of the cast rowing at full pace.

Other Crew Girl locations on Vancouver Island

Netflix listed more through its Netflix in Your Neighbourhood map, reported by Daily Hive. Seahorses Cafe in Brentwood Bay appears as the Crab Shack. Sidney also supplied the housewares shop Nest & Nook and an auto repair shop, Quality Brake & Muffler.

North Saanich contributed the BC Aviation Museum, Fickle Fig Farm Market and the North Saanich Freeride Park. Hamsterly Beach in Saanich features, and in Victoria the production used the Selkirk Waterfront, the Parkside Hotel, Church & State Winery and the PISE fitness centre.

Which Crew Girl locations can you visit?

Plenty of them, though not all are attractions. Here is what to expect, and check current hours before you travel.

  • Easton Prep is Hatley Castle, on the Royal Roads University campus. The gardens are free and open from 10 a.m. until dusk. The castle is a working university building, so the inside is open only on a guided tour, and daily tours have finished for this season, with information about the 2027 season due next spring.
  • The rowing water is Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park, open sunrise to sunset with no admission, and the Gorge Waterway. Both are public.
  • Eagle's Cove is Sidney, and the town and its waterfront are yours to wander. Port Sidney Marina is a working marina.
  • The Crab Shack is Seahorses Cafe in Brentwood Bay, a normal restaurant keeping normal hours. The BC Aviation Museum and Church & State Winery are open to visitors too.
  • Nest & Nook, Fickle Fig Farm Market, the Parkside Hotel, Hamsterly Beach and the North Saanich Freeride Park are all open to the public in the ordinary way, with their own hours.
  • The university buildings, Victoria City Rowing Club, the PISE fitness centre and Quality Brake & Muffler are working premises rather than places to go and look at.
