How the score works
- LIGHTHOUSE5An all-timer. Go bother your friends about it.
- BLAZING4 – 4.5Excellent. Earns every minute.
- GLOWING3 – 3.5Good. A worthy night in.
- DIMMED2 – 2.5A mess, but a watchable one.
- SHORT-CIRCUIT1 – 1.5Mostly broken. One decent spark.
- SHATTERED0 – 0.5Hot garbage. Hard pass.
The three boxes
Every review ends the same way: named lists rather than a number you have to take on faith. There are three, and a review carries the ones it has.
- Bright BulbsWhat works. The scene, the performance, the choice that earns its place.
- Dull BulbsThe mediocre middle — neither good nor a disaster. Fine but forgettable, half-committed, wasted potential.
- Shattered BulbsWhat breaks. The parts that fail on their own terms, not just the ones we didn't enjoy.
What gets reviewed
Movies and TV — the films everyone assumes you've already seen, the shows that vanished after one season, and the gaps we're embarrassed about.
Editorial independence
No paid reviews. No access trades. No sponsored placements. Nothing here is written in exchange for anything.
Everything is watched in a cinema or on an ordinary paid subscription, the same way you'd watch it. There is no screener pipeline and no relationship to protect, which is mostly a consequence of being small — but it is also why a bad score costs us nothing.
Corrections
Factual errors get fixed, and the fix gets noted on the review rather than quietly patched. Opinions stand — a score is an argument and you're free to disagree with it — but a fact has no such licence.
